RICHARD PERKINS- CONVICTED AT ESSEX IN JANUARY 1798 (NO CRIME DETAILS GIVEN).HE WAS SENTENCED TO A TERM OF SEVEN YEARS.RICHARD WAS TRANSPORTEDTO NSW ABOARD THE "HILLSBOROUGH" LEAVING ENGLAND IN 1798 AND ARRIVING IN NSW IN1799.

THE FEVER SHIP "HILLSBOROUGH" TAKEN FROM THE BOOK ,THE CONVICT SHIPS

TYPHOID CARRIED ABOARD BY CONVICTS CAUSED THE DEATH OF 95 OF THE 300 PRISONERS THAT EMBARKED AT PORTSMOUTH, SEVERAL OTHERS DIED SHORTLY AFTER THEARRIVAL IN SYDNEY .GOVENOR HUNTER STATED THAT WHEN THE SHIP ARRIVED THE SURVIVORS WERE THE MOST WRETCHED AND MISERABLE CONVICTS EVER BEHELD, IN THE MOST SICKLY AND WRETCHED STATE, ALMOST EVERY PRISONER REQUIRED HOSPITAL TREATMENT.HARSH TREATMENT DURING THE VOYAGE WAS ALSO BLAMED FOR THE MORTALITY RATE.

NO RECORD CAN BE FOUND OF RICHARDS DEATH BUT HIS WIFE AND CHILDEN WERE LIVING WITH ANOTHER FAMILY ACCORDING TO THE 1822 MUSTER, SO IT IS ASSUMEDTHAT HE DIED BETWEEN 1818 AND 1822.

IT WOULD APPEAR THAT SARAH MARRIED THOMAS ROSE AFTER RICHARDS DEATH (NO RECORDS HAS YET BEEN FOUND , THE CHILDREN ALL GAVE THEIR PARENTS NAMES AS THOMAS AND SARAH ON LATER MARRIAGE
AND DEATH CERTIFICATES.
BY 1828 THOMAS HAD MOVED THE FAMILY OUT TO A PROPERTY AT APPIN.

SHE WAS ALSO BURIED AT THE DEVONSHIRE ST.CEMETERY WITH HER 5 DAY OLD DAUGHTER MARY RAINEY WHO DIED ON 16TH JANUARY 1829.
