KF notes When discussing Auntie Annie with Maggie (F). I had thought that she was my great Aunt. Maggie e-mailed the following details.
Great Aunty Annie came down from Crwbin for my mothers funeral and she is not your Great Aunt she was just your Aunt Annie. She was your fathers step sister. Grandma Elizabeth had her before they were married. She was small when our grandparents got married and she took on the Frater name with that marriage. Who her father was I do not know. In them days things like this was hushed up. My mother told us this several times when I was young. My father also said this at my mothers funeral.Spoke to brother Clive and believe that Maggie & have got Great Auntie Annie mixed up with Eirwen who is DC Frater's half-sister. Annie is shown as the daughter of David (Dafydd) LEWIS and Phebe ANTHONY

KF notes 10.10.2005
The birth details of Richard are based on the assumption that the family followed a naming convention. Richard's first born is Richard Ambrey BIGGS. It has been assumed by KF that Ambrey was the maiden name of a RA's Grandmother. This meant that either Richard's mother was an AMBREY or Mary's.
Research has found a Richard of the right time period whose father was a Richard BIGGS and mother was an AMBREY. This Richard had a brother Henry who was a Policeman and this Richard was also a Policeman. The dates at which Richard was a policeman does match up.
I am very confident that the birth and pedigree of this Richard are correct and this family tree has been correctly extended. From Mr P R Evans

Dear Mr Frater
Thank you for your e-mail. I have checked the alphabetical register of
rural constabulary (Q/Y/1/1) and the only Richard Biggs listed in the 1840s
joined on 11 September 1843. His warrant number was 595 and he joined
Gloucestershire policy force at the age of 23; he had previously been a
labourer and he originated from English Bicknor, Coleford in
Gloucestershire. It is written that he was of good character, but was
discharge from the force on 1 October 1844 for visiting a girl in a
gentleman's house without his knowledge. He was reinstated on 24 January
1845, with a new warrant number: 720. He was now aged 24 and again listed
his prior occupation as a labourer and came from English Bicknor. He served
until 31st January 1850, where his character was noted as 'indifferent' and
the reason for dismissal was listed as drunkenness. Although this gentleman
would have been serving in 1847-1848, it is likely this is not your
great-great grandfather because the places of residence do not match and his
prior profession was not a butcher.(KF note - I think the butcher part is a red herring)

email from Wendy Abraham 29/11/2006 -
Wendy has received a message from "Barrie" a descendent of William & Eliza which puts in doubt the parenthood of William. The logic of of Barrie's research has made me change the link from William (b 1793 Midsomer Norton) and Ann (b 1798 Leigh on Mendip) to James"Hi Wendy
Thanks very much for your prompt reply and the other sources of information.
However I feel that you possibly have the wrong parents for William!
I''''ve seen that tree quoted on the ''''Ancestry World Tree Project''''
If you check the Burial register for Midsomer Norton No.1016 Sept 4th 1837 it records the burial of William Carpenter infant of Clapton ie. 4 days after the baptism of William and Ann''''s son. (Baptism No. 147)
The 1841 census for Clapton gives Wm Carpenter (1 month), Elizabeth Lane(20)- parents Francis and Ann.
James Carpenter farmer of Ston Easton married Elizabeth Lane, father Francis Lane, at MSN on 16th Feb 1841. William was baptised 6th June 1841 at MSN.
William Carpenter was buried at Radstock 5th August 1908 aged 68 years (Burial No. 452)
I may be wrong but it seems pretty conclusive.
With best wishes
